About Tazenoor

Purpose

Tazenoor is a static reference covering three aspects of amateur astronomy as practised in Germany: equipment selection for beginners, interpretation of star charts and celestial coordinates, and identification of locations with low artificial sky brightness. The site is written in English to serve both German residents and international visitors who observe from Germany.

Content is informational in nature. It does not promote any equipment brand, retailer or commercial product, and does not carry advertising. References to external organisations link only to publicly maintained resources.

Editorial approach

Articles aim to describe how things work and where to find relevant information, rather than offer prescriptive recommendations framed as expert opinion. Where specific examples are given — such as telescope optical designs or dark sky designation criteria — they reflect documented technical characteristics or publicly stated designations from the organisations involved.

Speculative claims, invented statistics and unverifiable assertions are excluded. When exact figures are uncertain, the text acknowledges this rather than supplying approximate numbers as if they were precise.

Scope and limitations

The site covers introductory-level material. It does not address astrophotography workflows, advanced telescope collimation, variable star reporting or other topics that assume a working telescope and prior observation experience. Those subjects are covered in depth by the Vereinigung der Sternfreunde (VdS) and other established amateur organisations.

Dark sky location information reflects publicly documented designations and general characteristics known from observer reports. Conditions at any site vary with weather, season and local events. The site does not verify current access rights, seasonal closures or recent changes to outdoor lighting in the areas described.
